Know what is Santhara?
According to Jain Lunkaran Chhajed, the patron of the Terapanth Mahasabha, Santhara is a sacred and intense process of Jainism, which is adopted for the purification and salvation of the soul. This is not limited to physical renunciation only, but at a mental and spiritual level, the seeker teaches the lesson, restraint and humility. Santhara, also known as a writings, is a voluntary and disciplined practice, which gives the seeker an opportunity to control physical desires, mental peace and get rid of deeds. It accepts death as a conscious and sacred process, which is based on the principles of non -violence, truth and restraint of Jainism.
Santhara is not a simple decision;
It is adopted after intensive idea, guidance of gurus and consent of the community, especially in terms of incurable disease, old age or desire for spiritual progress. However, in modern context, some people associate Santhara with suicide, due to which it has been a matter of dispute. Nevertheless, in 2015, the Supreme Court of India considered it a part of religious freedom, provided it is in voluntary and incurable conditions. The life of seekers like Taradevi reflects the inspirational form of this practice, which is not only the path of spiritual purification, but also an ideal for the community.
Process of Santhara:
The process of Santhara is completed in several stages, which prepares the seeker at physical, mental and spiritual levels. First of all, the seeker takes a pledge of Santhara in the presence of saints and sages, in which he pledges to serve food, water and worldly pleasures. Initially the amount of solid food is reduced, then the intake of fluids is limited, and in the end the seeker completely renounces food and water.
During this time, physical weakness may be faced, but special emphasis is given on the mental fortune and spiritual concentration of the seeker. During Santhara, the seeker strictly follows the principles of Jainism. This includes the recitation of Pratikraman, Namokar Mantra, Logas Sutra and chanting of hymns like Bhaktamar. The seeker keeps the mind calm and free from worldly fascination through meditation and equality.
Taradevi Baid, while performing Santhara for 76 days, kept his practice continuously with Pratikraman, Logas’s recitation and chanting mantra. His practice, in which he inspired him by resolving the curiosities of family and community, is an example of an ideal Santhara.

Community cooperation has special significance in Santhara. The seeker is not left alone; Family, Jain community and saints and saints provide continuous encouragement and service. Many families and visitors including her husband Vijay Kumar, daughters Varsha and Charu, Bhai Vinod Chapra, Lalitha Chapra, Masi Pushpa Devi Bafna, Mama Raju Ji Chapra, Bhanji Lalitha Bothra, Jethani Sundar Devi Baid, Janwai Kamalji Bhansali were present in Santhara of Taradevi. Sadhvishri Vishwasji, Labdiyashaji and other sages and sages boosted Taradevi’s morale through philosophy, Mangal recitation and discourses. The people of the community maintained a spiritual atmosphere through disinterest songs and service.

Muni Nami Kumar ji also praised Taradevi’s strong morale and wished that his soul continued to become the best. Nanosa, Nanand Maharaj and Sasuji of Taradevi also bid farewell to Santhara, and this Santhara of Taradevi is considered to be the success of that.

The importance of Santhara is seen in Jainism as the path of spiritual upliftment and salvation. It gives the seeker an opportunity for destruction and spiritual purification at the last minute.
