New Delhi. Security has been tightened in the national capital after a blast in a car near Red Fort metro station in Delhi. At least eight people have been confirmed dead in the explosion that took place on Monday evening, while many others are said to be injured. Immediately after the incident, relief teams, Delhi Police, forensic teams and central agencies reached the spot and cordoned off the area and started investigation. CISF increased the security of many sensitive areas. After the blast, the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) issued a post on social media saying that all the major establishments under their security cover have been put on high alert. These include-
Major stations of Delhi Metro,
Red Fort Complex,
central government buildings,
Indira Gandhi International (IGI) Airport,
And other important institutions located in NCR.
According to CISF, the situation is being constantly monitored and security personnel have been kept on standby mode so that immediate action can be taken in case of any emergency.
The echo and terror of the explosion
According to local people, the explosion was so strong that it created chaos among the people present nearby. Traffic was immediately stopped in Red Fort metro station and its surrounding areas. Traffic was diverted and security on that section of the metro line was increased.
A senior Delhi Police officer said that in the preliminary investigation, clues are being found regarding the nature of the blast and the material used in it, but clear confirmation can be given only after the forensic report comes. At present, it is too early to say whether the blast is a part of any terrorist conspiracy or it happened due to some other reason.
Investigative agencies activated
National Security Guard (NSG) Explosive Disposal Team, Intelligence Bureau (IB), and Special Cell officials also reached the spot and collected evidence. The footage of CCTV cameras installed all around is being scrutinized, and efforts are being made to reach the owner on the basis of information about the car number.
Government’s appeal
After the incident, both the Delhi government and the central government have appealed to the people to stay away from rumors and immediately report any suspicious activity to the police. Security agencies say that additional security has been deployed at every strategic point in the capital.
Situation under control, but vigilance continues
Although the incident site has been completely sealed, investigating officials believe that security can be further increased if needed. Patrolling has been intensified in the airport, metro and crowded areas.
This blast, which took place right near a historical and sensitive place like the Red Fort, has raised many questions regarding the security arrangements. The investigating agencies are currently investigating every possible aspect.
