Pakistan Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif met US President Donald Trump at the White House on Thursday. Pakistan’s powerful army chief Field Marshal Asim Munir was also present in this meeting behind the doors closed at the Oval Office of the White House. Sharif thanked President Trump for the ceasefire between India and Pakistan in May, sprinkling salt on India’s wounds. He called the US President a “Shanti Purush” and invited Trump to come to Pakistan.
Thanks to Trump for the ceasefire
According to a statement issued by the Pakistani Prime Minister’s Office, during a meeting with Trump at the Oval Office, Shahbaz Sharif said that the adventure, courageous and decisive steps of the US President made the ceasefire possible between Pakistan and India and deferred a major devastation in South Asia. Shahbaz also praised President Trump for inviting the leaders of the Muslim world to end the struggle in Gaza and restore peace in the Middle East. Prime Minister Shahbaz along with Asim Munir also thanked Trump for the tariff agreement between Pakistan and the US.
Pakistan-US relations strengthen
The last months of Trump’s President’s tenure have seen warmth in the US-Pakistan relations, while Washington has been considering India as an important partner to combat China’s influence in Asia over the years. Recent months have deteriorated relations between India and the United States, with a visa ban for Indians and heavy duty on Indian goods in the US. Trump has repeatedly claimed that he intercepted the military conflict between India and Pakistan in May.
Demand for Nobel Prize for Trump
India has repeatedly denied Trump’s claim and denied involvement of any third party. Meanwhile, Pakistan has credited President Trump. In June this year, Asim Munir made a historic visit to the White House, where Trump invited him on lunch. During the visit, Munir credited Trump for the ceasefire and demanded the Nobel Peace Prize for him. Pakistan later officially submitted its nomination for Trump.
