Delhi, May 27 (). Congress MP Dr. Shashi Tharoor has expressed a positive reaction to the formation of a high-level committee on demographic change by the Union Home Ministry. Tharoor said that this is a very important development and it is necessary to understand the accurate and comprehensive data before any serious discussion can be had on its political implications.
Speaking to , Shashi Tharoor said, “A lot of things are happening. A lot of changes are happening. I believe that before we can have any serious discussion on the political implications of this, it is important that we understand the data that we are dealing with. Otherwise people can misuse the data, especially if the data is incomplete and create unnecessary political controversy.”
He stressed that we must have accurate facts and figures that reflect all demographic factors and trends. Referring to the national census, Tharoor said that this process is also going on, which will prove useful.
Moroccan Ambassador to Delhi, H.E. Shashi Tharoor attended the launch ceremony of Mohammad Maliki’s book ‘What If…Why Not’ as the chief guest. Praising the book, Tharoor said, “It is not just a diplomatic memoir. It is his childhood memories but also his thoughts on life, human beings and relationships with each other. It is a very well-written, very heart-touching book, which really captures the human connection that diplomacy is all about.”
Tharoor called it a tremendous contribution by the Moroccan ambassador. He said that the Ambassador has made diplomacy a medium of empathy, memory and building bridges between cultures, especially between India and Morocco.
During the ceremony, Dr. Shashi Tharoor also announced the winner of the 11th Oxford Bookstore Book Cover Prize. This time this award was given to Bena Sarin for the wonderful cover design of Amitava Kumar’s book ‘My Beloved Life’. Congratulating Bena Sarin, Tharoor said that her design beautifully captures the spirit of the book.
