Sony has once again increased the prices of its popular gaming consoles—PlayStation 5, PS5 Pro, and PlayStation Portal. This time, the company has implemented these new prices in many countries of South-East Asia. However, this is a relief news for Indian gamers, as no price hike has been announced in India yet. The company says that this decision has been taken due to global economic pressures and rising operating costs. Earlier, prices were also increased in America, Europe, Britain and Japan. The new prices will be applicable from May 1, 2026.
Countries where PS5 prices have increased
Sony has increased the prices of PlayStation 5 in Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand, Indonesia, Philippines and Vietnam. In Singapore, the standard PS5 will now be available for SGD 849, while the PS5 Pro is priced at SGD 1,167. In Malaysia, the new PS5 is priced at MYR 2,799, and the PS5 Pro is priced at MYR 3,999. Even in Thailand, the PS5, PS5 Digital Edition, and PS5 Pro—all have become more expensive. Similarly, new prices have also been implemented in Indonesia, Philippines and Vietnam.
PlayStation Portal also became expensive
Sony has not only increased the prices of its consoles, but also increased the price of PlayStation Portal. This device works as a remote player for PS5. In Singapore, its price has now increased to SGD 347. In Malaysia, it will be available for MYR 1,099, while in Thailand it has been priced at THB 8,380 and in Indonesia at IDR 5,199,000. PlayStation Portal is quite popular among gamers who want to play their PS5 games in different parts of their home.
Temporary relief in India—but what happens next?
As of now, Sony has not made any announcement regarding a price increase for the PS5, PS5 Pro, or PlayStation Portal in India. This has provided some temporary relief to Indian gamers. However, the company has clearly stated that this decision has been taken due to global economic challenges. As a result, prices may be revised in other markets including India in the coming months. If you are planning to buy PS5, then buying it at the current price could be a wise move.
