Due to the huge fall in crude oil prices, strong rise in global markets and big jump in GIFT Nifty, the market witnessed a strong rise after a long time today – Wednesday. The market turned bullish following the ceasefire between the US and Iran, as well as the results of the RBI MPC meeting. The market reacted positively to optimistic comments from Iranian leaders regarding the ceasefire.

Sensex jumped 2,946 points to close at 77,563, while Nifty rose 874 points to settle at 23,997. Nifty Bank index closed 2,988 points higher at 55,704; Meanwhile, in the currency market, the rupee strengthened by 43 paise to close at 92.58 against the US dollar. The Nifty Mid Select index rose 599 points (4.75%) to close at 13,219.9, and the Nifty Smallcap index rose 694.7 points (4.39%) to close at 16,538.

Increase in market cap by ₹16.5 lakh crore
Amid today’s rally, the total market capitalization of Indian companies increased by ₹16.5 lakh crore. Nifty hit its highest level in four weeks, and crossed the 24,000 mark for the first time since March 11. This was Nifty’s biggest one-day gain since May 12, 2025, and Bank Nifty’s biggest gain since June 5, 2024. Strong growth was seen in all sectoral indices.

During the trading session, both Sensex and Nifty gained around 4% each. This trend of rise in the market continued even after the decision of RBI MPC to keep the interest rates unchanged. The Realty index jumped up to 7%, while the PSU Bank index also gained more than 4%. This market rally resulted in an increase of ₹16 lakh crore in the total market capitalisation. India VIX—volatility index—fell 21.56% to around 19.37 levels.

Sensex opened at around 77,211, showing a rise of about 2,600 points. Nifty also opened at around 23,871, a gain of about 750 points. Bank Nifty stood at 55,002, with a gain of about 2,290 points. Nifty Midcap Select Index was trading at 13,041, up 420 points.

At 09:26 am, Sensex was trading at 77,145, up 2,529 points. Meanwhile, Nifty remained around 23,868, with a gain of 744 points. Bank Nifty was at 55,002, up 2,280 points. Both Nifty Midcap and Smallcap indices saw a gain of 3 percent.

Indigo was the biggest gainer in Nifty 50, rising by 10%. LT, Shriram Finance, Adani Ports, Adani Enterprises, Bajaj Finance, Asian Paints, ICICI Bank and UltraTech Cement were also among the top gainers. At the same time, ONGC and Coal India were the only companies that suffered losses, and both recorded a decline of 3 percent.
