Sambalpur, March 29 (INS). Prime Minister Narendra Modi praised the fish farming efforts of Sujata Bhuyan, a resident of Sambalpur, Odisha, during the ‘Mann Ki Baat’ program on Sunday. Sujata has expressed happiness on this and also expressed her gratitude to Prime Minister Modi.
Sujata Bhuyan has achieved success in fish farming using ‘cage culture’ method in Hirakud reservoir. His initiative and determination were especially mentioned by the Prime Minister. Speaking to news agency , Sujatha says, “He started his work by taking a loan from the bank.”
Speaking to on Prime Minister Modi’s praise, Sujata Bhuyan said, “I am proud that the Prime Minister mentioned my name.” He thanked both the Prime Minister and the Fisheries Department for their cooperation.
“She was able to achieve success only because of government support, including bank loans and support from the fisheries department,” Sujata said. He told that his journey started after visiting Hirakud Reservoir, where he saw fish farming activities and then contacted the department. After taking training, he started his work by taking a bank loan in 2022.
At present, she is engaged in tilapia fish farming. She also admitted that being a woman in this field, she faced many challenges, especially in the initial stages, but said that the situation gradually got better with time.
According to reports, Sujatha earned around Rs 6 lakh in the very first year of her work and since then she has become an inspiration for many women. They have also received recognition for supplying fish to markets outside the state.
Despite being a housewife, Sujatha regularly visits the reservoir to look after the fisheries activities along with taking care of her family.
