The petitioner has been identified as Prabal Pratap. He asked Justice K.V. Vishwanathan and Justice Alok Aradhe called the two-judge bench “judicial servants” and claimed that he himself was “sovereign”. The lawyers were arguing on a petition challenging an order of the Allahabad High Court. In the viral video, he can be heard saying, “Sir judicial servant, I order you to register an FIR against the ACP of Vikas Nagar, Lucknow.”
**Abused CJI, told judges: “I am sovereign”**
In response, Justice Vishwanathan asked, “Are you ordering us?” The lawyer replied, “I am the sovereign.” The situation worsened when he threw papers related to the case in the air inside the court room and behaved disrespectfully towards the court. When court officials were taking him out, he used abusive language and said, “Hand it over to the CJI.”
**Court order: No action against the petitioner**
Despite all this drama, the court issued its order. The Supreme Court bench examined the facts of the case and gave its verdict. The judges clearly stated that they would not take any action against the petitioner for his abusive behaviour. The bench, in its order, said that considering the position of the petitioner, it does not intend to initiate any action against him; As a result, the Special Leave Petition (SLP) was dismissed. All pending applications – including those seeking leave to appear and argue and leave to file applications – were also deemed disposed of. Even before this, during the court proceedings, a lawyer had tried to throw a shoe at the CJI.
