Surajkund fair accident: Minister Rajesh Nagar inspected the incident site, two accused arrested

Chandigarh, February 8 (). The state police on Sunday arrested two people, including the owner of a ride-operating company, on charges of negligence in ensuring safety in the ongoing Surajkund Mela accident in Faridabad, Haryana.

Haryana Minister Rajesh Nagar also reached Surajkund Fair on Sunday and met the people and got information about the entire accident. The minister inspected the spot and ordered the officers present at the spot not to be careless.

Speaking to , ACP Dinesh Kumar said, “The incident happened between 6:00 pm and 6:15 pm. There were at least 12-13 people on the rolling swing. Suddenly a part of the swing broke. Soon after the swing broke, an inspector, two women, an ASI, a soldier and a home guard climbed onto the swing to save the children. While they were trying to save them, The other part of the swing also broke.”

He said that the inspector had suffered serious injuries while saving people, after which the doctors declared him dead. After the accident, the swing area has been closed and an FIR has also been registered against three people due to negligence. SIT has been formed to further investigate the matter, which will submit the report after investigation.

Meanwhile, during the investigation, Mohammad Shakir, resident of Toka Nangla village of Sirmaur district, who was responsible for installing swings in the fair premises and another accused, Nitesh, resident of Dharmapuri, Meerut, Uttar Pradesh, have been arrested. Police said that the role of other persons involved in this incident is also being investigated.

Police said that Inspector Jagdish Prasad made a commendable effort to save the injured while on duty and his death is an irreparable loss to the police department. The department will provide all possible financial assistance to the family and under the compassionate policy, employment will be given to any eligible member of the family.

DGP Ajay Singhal also visited Faridabad Civil Hospital and Supreme Hospital to take stock of the condition of the injured. Police spokesperson said that 12 people including lady assistant sub-inspector Neelam, lady constable Sharmila, Rajesh (SPO), Harsh Prakash, Prashant, Ameesha, Parvinder, Sunil, Shivani, Balbir, Anuj and Pooja were injured in this incident.

Of these, five injured persons have been discharged from the hospital. The condition of the remaining injured is said to be stable and they are being provided advanced medical care.
