New Delhi. Regarding the situation developing in and around Iran, India’s Foreign Minister S. There was a phone conversation between Jaishankar and Iran’s Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi late on Wednesday evening. The two leaders discussed the rapidly changing situation in Iran. Information about this conversation, External Affairs Minister Jaishankar wrote on social media platform This conversation comes at a time when the Government of India has issued another travel advisory for Indian citizens in view of the recent developments in Iran.
“In view of the ongoing situation in Iran, Indian citizens are advised to strictly avoid travel to the Islamic Republic of Iran until further notice,” the government advisory said.
Earlier on January 5, India had advised its citizens to avoid non-essential travel to Iran.
The Ministry of External Affairs has asked Indian citizens and people of Indian origin present in Iran to remain alert. The advisory states that they should stay away from demonstration and protest sites, keep an eye on the local situation and regularly follow the website and social media handles of the Indian Embassy in Tehran.
Also, Indians living in Iran on resident visa have also been advised to register with the embassy, if they have not done so already.
Let us tell you that violent demonstrations are taking place in many cities of Iran, in which there are reports of deaths of many people. This has increased tension not only within the country but in the entire region.
Meanwhile, the US has advised its citizens to “immediately leave Iran”. The US administration has asked citizens to consider leaving Iran via Armenia or Turkey.
In a security alert issued by the US Virtual Embassy based in Iran, it has been said that demonstrations are intensifying across the country and may turn violent. This has resulted in situations like arrests, injuries, security tightening, closure of roads, disruption in public transport and ban on internet services.
The alert also said that many airlines have limited or canceled flights to and from Iran and some have suspended services until January 16.
Overall, in view of the worsening situation in Iran, many countries including India have increased vigilance regarding the safety of their citizens.
