Bengaluru, June 14 (). Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MP Tejaswi Surya has targeted the state government and city administration over the dilapidated roads, potholes and bad footpaths of Bengaluru. Posting on social media platform X, he said that Bengaluru is being developed not for people but only for vehicles.

Tejasvi Surya said that the city’s roads are full of potholes, while the footpaths are either broken, vulnerable to encroachment or completely missing in many places. In such a situation, walking has become unsafe and inconvenient and pedestrians and cyclists are constantly being ignored.

He said a great city is not defined by flyovers alone, but by how safely people can walk, cycle, play and interact with each other in public spaces.

The MP also placed three major demands for the city. He demanded pothole-free and good quality roads, continuous and accessible footpaths across Bengaluru and development of more public spaces for citizens and communities.

Along with this, Tejaswi Surya proposed ‘Open Streets Bengaluru’ campaign. He suggested that on one Sunday every month, selected roads and flyovers of the city should be opened for a few hours only to people instead of vehicles, so that citizens can walk, cycle, organize sports, exercise and community activities and local businesses can also be promoted.

He said that many cities of the world are reclaiming public spaces for the people and Bengaluru should also move in the same direction. Surya clarified that his demand is not for any luxury project, but for basic urban infrastructure, safe roads and better quality of life.

He has set a target of gathering signatures of at least 5 lakh citizens for this campaign and has appealed to people to sign this petition and share it with their family, friends and colleagues, to create a mass movement towards making Bengaluru a more pedestrian-friendly, livable and citizen-centric city.
