Hyderabad, June 16 (). Telangana’s Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) on Tuesday conducted searches at premises linked to a Lands and Survey Department official in an alleged disproportionate assets case.
ACB officials conducted a simultaneous search operation at 12 places in and around Hyderabad against Sunkari Narhari, Deputy Director of Lands and Survey (Multi Zone-2). He is accused of accumulating wealth far beyond his known sources of income.
Under the leadership of ACB DSP Gangasani Sridhar, raids were conducted at Narhari’s house at Chhatrinaka in the old city, his office at Narayanguda, and properties belonging to his relatives and close associates.
Sources say officials seized around Rs 1 crore in cash, documents related to several properties and a large amount of bank deposits.
ACB officials were using currency counting machines to count wads of notes and weigh gold jewelery and silver items. The anti-corruption agency is continuing to investigate his assets, bank accounts and investments.
It is likely that the ACB will issue a detailed statement in the evening on the search and the information received from it.
The raid was conducted following allegations against the officer of his involvement in corruption.
The incident comes a week after the ACB arrested Roads and Buildings (R&B) Engineer-in-Chief Mohan Naik in a disproportionate assets case.
On June 9, ACB officials had searched the house and other premises linked to Mohan Naik and his relatives.
Officials recovered Rs 60 lakh in cash, gold jewelery weighing one kilogram and 13 gold biscuits. They also found documents of properties in Hyderabad and Nizamabad.
According to the ACB, the government value of the property found during the raid is approximately Rs 17.95 crore. However, his market value is estimated to be around Rs 200 crore.
The agency produced Mohan Naik in the court, which sent him to 14-day judicial custody.
It is alleged that the Engineer-in-Chief favored some companies in awarding contracts and created a huge network to extend his influence across Telangana.
