TMC against UCC, will oppose the bill: MP Saugata Roy

Kolkata . Trinamool Congress MP Saugata Roy has opposed the Uniform Civil Code (UCC) Bill in West Bengal. He said that TMC is against this bill and it will be opposed later also. Speaking to news agency on Friday, MP Saugata Roy said, “TMC is against it. I have seen that the state government is forming a committee, which will have retired Chief Justice of the Supreme Court. What happens next remains to be seen.” Reiterating his point, Saugata Roy also said that we are against this bill and it will also be opposed later.
On the Election Commission’s letter to former West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee and rebel leader Ritabrata Banerjee, Saugata Roy said, “I have heard about it, but I do not have complete information. All I know is that Ritabrata Banerjee went (to the Election Commission office) and a reply will be given by our party.”
On the training program organized for the newly elected members of the West Bengal Assembly, Saugata Roy said, “Many BJP MLAs have become assembly members for the first time and they need training. That is why they have come to this program. Now it has to be seen how much they learn. I know that a training camp is being organized here for the new MLAs.”
The TMC MP said new MLAs need to learn about parliamentary procedures. The present Speaker of the Bengal Assembly has also been newly appointed. Therefore they should learn.
On the meeting of Mamata Banerjee and Jaya Bachchan, Saugata Roy said, “Mamata Banerjee has very good contact with Jaya Bachchan. Jaya Bachchan is a Rajya Sabha member of the Samajwadi Party and TMC also has good relations with her party.”
On TMC’s July 21 rally, he said, “We want to hold our rally in Dharmatala. However, permission for it has been given so far. Now Mamata Banerjee will decide where the event will be held.”
