Samajwadi Party (SP) has intensified its protest against the proposed demolition of buildings in Johar University, Rampur. The party has announced that a delegation of its MPs will visit the district on Saturday to take stock of the situation and put pressure on the administration not to take any bulldozing action.
The step was taken after the party sent a delegation of MLAs led by opposition leader Mata Prasad Pandey to Rampur on Thursday. Now, on the instructions of SP chief Akhilesh Yadav, a nine-member parliamentary delegation is scheduled to visit the district to gather first-hand information about developments related to the university.
According to the party, the MPs will meet Rampur district administration officials, seek detailed information about the notices issued to the university and prepare a report to submit to the party leadership. The delegation will also urge the administration not to take any demolition action until all legal and administrative issues are completely resolved.
The SP delegation includes Moradabad MP Ruchi Veera, Iqra Hasan, Harendra Singh Malik, Rajeev Rai, Mohibullah Nadvi, Neeraj Maurya and Ziaur Rehman Burke and other party MPs. This matter has come to light after the action taken by Rampur administration against Johar University.
During investigation, officials found that 38 buildings of the university were constructed without approved maps. Taking this seriously, the administration has issued a demolition notice. Under this, the university management has been instructed to remove these unauthorized constructions within 15 days.
The notice said that if the university management fails to carry out the demolition work within the stipulated time limit, the district administration can initiate demolition proceedings. The possibility of bulldozing action has sparked political controversy, with the Samajwadi Party calling the move inappropriate and demanding protection of the university.
The issue has now become a major political controversy in Uttar Pradesh, with the opposition demanding administrative transparency while district officials claiming that the action is based on alleged violations of building construction rules. –
