Barmer. In a tragic accident on Sunday morning in Bano Ki Beri Dudh village of Sadar police station area of the district, a mother and her 7-year-old son died due to drowning in their trunk. The incident happened when the mother and son were taking selfies near a water tank built in the field. According to the police, Jeeyo Devi (30) and wife Gosairam were taking selfies with their son Hitesh (7) near the house. It is being told that first both of them got photographed together. After this, when Jio Devi was alone taking her son down to take a selfie, Hitesh’s foot slipped and he fell into the trunk. Seeing her son drowning, Jio Devi immediately jumped into the trunk to save him, but due to the water being too deep, both of them could not get out. Hearing the screams of the mother and son, nearby people reached the spot and tried to save them, but could not succeed.
On receiving information about the incident, Sadar police station and civil defense team reached the spot. The rescue operation faced a lot of difficulties due to deep water. First an attempt was made to rescue both of them with the help of JCB, but it was not successful. Later, water was taken out by breaking a wall of the diggi. After about three hours of hard work, the bodies of the mother and son could be taken out at around 1:30 pm.
The police have kept both the bodies in the mortuary of Dhorimanna Hospital. The in-laws have been informed and further legal action will be taken after their arrival.
The deceased’s brother Jalaram told that Jio Devi had come to Pehar with her son three days ago. On Sunday, other family members had gone to a social event, while only Jeeyo Devi and her son were present at home.
According to the information, Jio Devi was married to Gosairam, a resident of Kitanoria, in the year 2015. There is a wave of mourning in the entire village after this accident.
