Bikaner. A sensational incident took place on Tuesday evening in what is considered the safest area of the city. Near the District Collector’s residence, two miscreants riding a bike attacked trainee female judge Pooja Janagal and looted her gold chain. The miscreants kicked the scooter and made it fall, due to which Pooja fell face down on the road. There were deep injuries on the face, three stitches on the chin and a tooth was broken.
The incident took place around 7 pm, when Pooja Janagal was going on a scooty from Public Park towards Jayanarayan Vyas Colony. At the same time, two youths riding a bike came parallel to them. He kicked the scooter and made Pooja fall. Before she could recover, the miscreants broke the gold chain from her neck and fled from the spot. 25 year old Pooja Janagal is a resident of Badi Jasolai area of Bikaner. He was selected in Rajasthan Judicial Service (RJS) in the year 2024. Presently he is posted in Bikaner as a Trainee Judge. After the accident, Pooja informed her father Shravan Janagal over phone. His father is an advocate in Bikaner court. They reached the spot and immediately took the daughter to the trauma center of PBM Hospital, where doctors put three stitches on her chin.
Pooja’s father lodged a report at Sadar police station at around 12 o’clock in the night. It is clearly written in the FIR that the miscreants broke the chain and looted it. However, the statements of police officers are somewhat different. Additional SP Saurabh Tiwari said, “It was an attempt to rob. After falling off the scooter, the scoundrels themselves fell and then ran away.” Meanwhile, Sadar Police Station Officer Digpal Singh says that the investigation of CCTV footage is still going on and no one has been arrested yet.
Even after about 12 hours of the incident, the police could not analyze the footage. The police officer said that footage is being collected from cameras installed in nearby shops and colonies. But local people and lawyers have raised questions on the police action. He says that when such an incident can happen in the safest area of the city, then who will trust the safety of common citizens.
Anger was seen among lawyers and judicial officers in Bikaner court complex on Wednesday morning. Many lawyers said, “If even a trainee judge is not safe, then who will guarantee the safety of the common citizen?” The Bar Association has demanded immediate action from the police administration and arrest of the accused.
The incident site is the VIP zone of Bikaner. This is the same area where the District Collector, SP and many senior officers have their residences. There is police patrolling here day and night. Nevertheless, such incidents have raised serious questions on the law and order situation of Bikaner.
ASP Saurabh Tiwari said that several police teams have been formed which are investigating the incident site, possible routes and CCTV footage. He said that “the accused will be identified and arrested soon.”
This is not the first incident of attack on judicial officers and their families in Rajasthan. In the last few years, many lawyers, judges and government officials have been targeted. This incident in Bikaner has also become a serious example of the same sequence.
