Chennai . 41 people, including many women and children, lost their lives in a stampede at a rally held by actor and TVK president C. Joseph Vijay on September 27 in Karur, Tamil Nadu. The incident caused immense concern and anger across the state and drew criticism from the general public as well as political leaders.
Amidst all this, on Monday Vijay met the families of those who lost their lives in the Karur accident. This meeting was fixed at a private resort in Mahabalipuram, so that the families could get a safe and comfortable environment.
Vijay spoke personally to every family in this meeting and tried to understand their problems. He assured the families that he would fully bear the education and medical expenses of their children.
During the conversation, Vijay said, “I am with you in this difficult time.” Your sorrow is my sorrow too.”
Senior leaders of the TVK party said that this meeting was kept completely private and only people close to the party were involved in it. The aim was to ensure that families received direct condolences and that their immediate needs were met.
According to party sources, the families of the victims were brought to Chennai. About 38 families were brought through private buses, while some families arrived by plane.
According to TVK sources, each family was first brought from their home to a common place in Karur, from where everyone was sent together by road to Mahabalipuram. The entire arrangement was supervised by the secretaries of Karur, Coimbatore and Erode districts. The party ensured that the families did not face any inconvenience during the journey and were given full respect and care.
Actually, Vijay had initially planned that he himself would go to Karur and meet every family at their homes. But due to security reasons and other problems this plan had to be changed. After this the party decided that all the families should be called to one place, so that the meeting could take place in a peaceful, private and respectful environment.
