In these videos, people are seen tightly wrapping plastic cling wrap around their mouths. Then they make a small hole in the wrap, put the food in, chew it, and then spit it out instead of swallowing. Young people adopting this method believe that this gives a signal to the brain that they have eaten food, due to which the stomach feels full. They claim that in this way, calories do not enter the body, but hunger can be controlled to some extent.
What are health experts saying?
However, health experts do not agree with this claim. They clearly say that there is no scientific basis for this. The body does not get nutrition just by chewing. Until food is swallowed, the body cannot absorb the vitamins, minerals and other essential nutrients it provides. Consuming this product for a long time can cause nutritional deficiency, which can cause many health problems. Experts also say that the habit of spitting food after chewing it can gradually give rise to unhealthy eating habits.
This can lead to imbalance between mind and body regarding food. In many cases, such habits have been shown to increase appetite over time, leading to overeating. This may increase weight instead of reducing it. Wrapping plastic wrap tightly around the mouth can also be risky. This may cause difficulty in breathing, suffocation or skin problems. If the wrap is wrapped too tightly, it may restrict oxygen intake. Additionally, direct contact with plastic materials in the mouth is not considered safe.
