Kolkata, January 17 (). Leader of Opposition in West Bengal Assembly, Suvendu Adhikari on Saturday appealed to Governor C.V. Wrote a letter to Anand Bose demanding his intervention amid the ongoing tension in Beldanga (Murshidabad). The tension allegedly arose due to protests against the killing of a migrant laborer in Murshidabad district in Jharkhand.
“I am deeply concerned and outraged about the ongoing communal violence in Beldanga in Murshidabad district, where houses, shops and places of worship of innocent Hindu families are being directly attacked,” Suvendu Adhikari said on Saturday evening.
He said that in his letter he also informed the Governor that journalists covering the tension in Beldanga, including women journalists, were allegedly attacked while reporting.
Suvendu Adhikari said that he also apprised the Governor that the state and district administration in Murshidabad remained inactive in controlling the violent mob. He claimed that the violence in Beldanga started on Friday afternoon and continued till Saturday afternoon.
He said, “The most shocking thing is that the state administration is completely inactive. No orders have been issued under Section 163 and the situation is going out of control. Remembering the horrific riots in Murshidabad last year, where lives were lost, I cannot sit silently.”
In the letter, the opposition leader urged the Governor to immediately issue prohibitory orders and deploy Central Armed Police Forces so that peace is restored in Beldanga and people’s lives are protected.
“The Kolkata High Court’s 2025 directions clearly mandate action in such circumstances, and must now be implemented. I urge the Governor to intervene without any delay and direct the state to take decisive action,” he said.
