For almost two weeks, the power supply system in the entire district has completely collapsed. Despite spending crores of rupees, the electricity infrastructure has completely derailed. In the month of April, the mercury remains around 40 degrees. In these circumstances, it has become difficult to get out; But, due to frequent power cuts, even staying indoors is no longer comfortable.
The days pass by smoothly, but the problem of power cuts at night—on top of that, the terror of mosquitoes—is making life unbearable. Due to frequent and sudden fluctuations in power supply, home inverters are also not able to provide proper backup. With no electricity, people are forced to sleep on rooftops; But, there too, it has become impossible to sleep because of the swarms of mosquitoes. As a result, this poor condition of electricity has made the people of the entire district restless and troubled. Unfortunately, the situation is expected to worsen in the months of May and June.
The city’s population of about 1.5 lakh—spread across 31 wards—is supplied with electricity through four 33/11 kV substations at Tulsi Nagar, Pilikothi, Chilla Road and Bhuranagar. At present, the maximum temperature remains around 35 degrees Celsius. The temperature remains quite high even at night, which remains between 30 to 33 degrees.
As a result, living indoors without a cooler has become extremely difficult. In such a situation, from the city center to small towns and villages, the problem of frequent power cuts everywhere has made people’s lives miserable. Electricity infrastructure across the district is disrupted, with power outages lasting for hours. People pass the day somehow, but the difficulties increase even more at night.
Due to frequent and sudden fluctuations in power, even home inverters are not able to provide reliable backup. As a result, people are forced to sleep on rooftops or outside their homes at night. In these circumstances, due to the ever-increasing terror of mosquitoes, it has become almost impossible to sleep through the night. Children and the elderly are facing these difficulties the most.
On Friday night, due to strong winds and light rain, power supply was disrupted in many areas of the city. Electricity supply was disrupted across the city, including VVIP areas like Civil Lines, DM Colony, Bijli Kheda, Jaraili Kothi and Swaraj Colony. Residents have to wait continuously for several hours.
Electrical problems usually arise due to rising temperatures and storms. Additionally, problems such as power outages are common during the summer months due to increased load on the power grid. However, efforts are made to correct these problems immediately as soon as reports are received. Special teams have also been formed for this work.
