Wimbledon: Zverev reaches fourth round after defeating Giron, eyeing a place in quarter-finals for the first time

London, July 4 (). On Saturday, second seed Alexander Zverev won 6-2, 7-6(4), 6-4 against American player Marcos Giron at Wimbledon 2026. With this, Zverev made it to the fourth round at the All England Club for the fourth time in his career.

After winning her first Grand Slam title at the French Open, the German arrived at Wimbledon full of confidence, although she admitted that grass is her least favorite surface. He never got past the fourth round in SW19, but his recent performances suggest he may be ready to step up.

Zverev won the first set with a strong serve, while Giron improved his game in the second set. The American player did not face any break points and set up a tie-break. Zverev remained calm, saving two break points and doing well in the tie-break to stay just one set away from victory.

The German player broke early in the third set and won the second game. However, Giron broke back at 4-2, but Zverev immediately took the lead and won the match in 2 hours 34 minutes.

29-year-old Zverev gave another brilliant performance on the basis of his service. He hit 17 aces in the match and won 54 points (77 percent) out of 70 played on the first serve. Although American player Giron kept up the pressure, Zverev maintained his unbeaten record against him. They have won all five matches against Girone and have won 13 of the 14 sets played between the two.

This victory also added Zverev to the list of Germany’s best players, becoming the third German male player in the Open Era to reach the ‘Round of 16’ of Wimbledon at least four times. He is tied with three-time champion Boris Becker (who did so 12 times) and 1991 champion Michael Stich (who reached the last 16 five times).
