If you are thinking of taking admission in engineering program, then this news is useful for you. AICTE has decided to close 58 engineering and technical colleges across the country. Apart from this, more than 950 engineering and technical courses have also been closed. However, students already studying in these colleges need not worry; Their studies will continue as normal and they will be able to complete their degree.

**In which states were most colleges closed?**

The maximum number of colleges were closed in Uttar Pradesh and Maharashtra, where 12 colleges each were closed in each state. After this comes Madhya Pradesh, where 8 colleges were closed. Four colleges each closed in Telangana and Punjab; three each in Andhra Pradesh and Rajasthan; And two colleges each were closed in Gujarat, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu and Puducherry. One college each in Haryana, Odisha, Uttarakhand and West Bengal was closed.

**Why were colleges closed?**

AICTE said that the number of admissions of students in many of these colleges had been declining for a long time. Many institutions lacked qualified faculty and failed to meet required facilities and regulatory standards. Despite giving several opportunities for improvement, no progress was made, due to which the decision was taken to close these colleges.

**Will there be any hindrance in the studies of the students currently studying?**

AICTE has clarified that there will be no impact on the studies of existing students. These colleges will stop taking admission of new students. Current students will complete their courses and receive their degree on schedule.

**What is ‘progressive closure’?**

Under this decision, colleges are being closed gradually. This means that new admissions are put on hold, but students already studying are allowed to complete their studies; This process is called ‘progressive closure’.

**Please check this before taking admission**

If you are planning to take admission in any engineering college this year, then make sure that the college you are applying to is approved by AICTE. By doing this check beforehand, you can avoid any future problems.
