According to the bank holidays calendar released by the Reserve Bank of India (RBI), banks across the country will remain closed for two days from May 18 to May 24, 2026. This includes all public and private sector banks like SBI, HDFC Bank, ICICI Bank, PNB and others. According to RBI, a total of 9 bank holidays have been fixed for the month of May. These include the second and fourth Saturdays as well as all Sundays. However, since no specific regional or public holiday has been declared, banks will remain open on the first, third and fifth Saturday of the month.

May 23, 2026 (Saturday): Banks across the country will remain closed as today is the fourth Saturday.
May 24, 2026 (Sunday): All bank branches will remain closed due to weekly holiday.

In May, banks remained closed on the occasion of Labor Day/Buddha Purnima on May 1, 2026. Additionally, banks will also remain closed on May 27, 2026 due to Bakri Eid (Eid-ul-Adha). Also, banks will remain closed on second Saturday (May 9), fourth Saturday (May 23) and all Sundays.

Online services will continue even if banks are closed
Despite bank branches being closed, online banking services will continue to function normally. Customers will be able to send and receive money through UPI, mobile banking and internet banking. Apart from this, services like NEFT, RTGS, Debit Card, Credit Card and ATM will also be available. However, there may be temporary interruptions in digital services from time to time due to scheduled maintenance, about which the Bank informs the customers in advance. Customers can also apply online for check book, demand draft, account maintenance and other banking services.
