Instant messaging app Telegram has become available again in India after a week. The central government had imposed a temporary ban on Telegram and its associated web services following the controversy over the spread of alleged fake and leaked question papers of the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET). This ban was in force till June 22, which has now been lifted.
Ban was imposed after NEET controversy
The government had taken action against Telegram after allegations were made that fake and alleged leaked papers of NEET exam were being circulated through this platform. After this, Telegram’s services were temporarily stopped. The process of lifting the ban started after the completion of NEET re-exam on June 21.
App returned to Google Play Store
After the ban was lifted, Telegram started appearing again on Google Play Store from the morning of June 23. However, many users complained that they were not able to download it despite it being available on the App Store. Some people reported that the app is not working properly even after the download is complete.
Problems with sign-up and chat access
Many users also claimed that after installing the app, they are not able to sign-up or login to their account. At the same time, some users also faced problems in accessing the chat. This problem was seen in customers of different internet service providers.
Jio and Airtel users also filed complaints
According to reports, in some cases, users using Reliance Jio and Airtel networks also complained of connectivity and login issues. This indicates that despite the resumption of services, some hurdles still remain at the technical level.
The app was not available for iPhone users
iPhone users had to face more problems than Android users. Many users reported that the Telegram app was not currently available on the App Store, due to which they could not download or update it.
Services are gradually becoming normal
Technical experts believe that after a long ban, it may take some time for services to be completely restored. In such a situation, users may face temporary technical problems in different areas and networks. It is expected that all Telegram services will become completely normal in the coming days.
