Big change in Delhi-NCR: CNG-diesel autos banned from 2027, only electric autos will be registered

A big decision has come regarding pollution control in Delhi-NCR. The Commission for Air Quality Management (CAQM) has made a major change in the rules related to auto rickshaws in the region and has indicated that new registration of CNG and diesel autos may be banned from the year 2027. After this, only electric auto rickshaws are likely to be allowed registration.

The aim of this step is said to be to control the rapidly increasing air pollution in Delhi-NCR and to shift public transport towards clean energy. According to officials, the transport sector is a major source of pollution, and converting vehicles like auto rickshaws to electric alternatives can prove to be an important step in this direction.

According to reports, this proposal will be implemented in a phased manner, so that existing auto drivers do not have to face any sudden problems. CNG and diesel autos already running may get permission to operate for a certain period, but new permits will be given only to electric vehicles.

After this decision, the discussion among auto drivers and transport unions has intensified. Many drivers say the initial cost of electric autos is high and the charging infrastructure is not yet fully developed. In such a situation, the government should provide subsidies and better facilities so that the change can be made easier.

Environmental experts believe that this decision can prove to be very positive in the long run. Increasing use of electric vehicles will not only reduce pollution but will also reduce fuel dependence.

This step of CAQM is being considered in line with the Electric Mobility Policy of the Central Government, under which work is being done to promote clean transportation across the country. At present, final notification and detailed guidelines on this proposal are awaited. After its implementation, a major change can be seen in the public transport system on the roads of Delhi-NCR.
