Amazon’s Big Decision: Amazon, which employs about 16 lakh people worldwide, has made a major change in its employment policy.
Under this new policy, a country in Asia has been completely blocked from applying for jobs in Amazon. This country is not China or Iran, but North Korea.
North Korea is currently under the leadership of dictator Kim Jong Un. According to the new policy of Amazon, now no person from North Korea will be able to apply for a job in the company.
Job applications were increasing rapidly from North Korea
According to media reports, North Korean people were trying to get work-from-home jobs in companies around the world, especially in American companies.
According to an AFP report, Amazon’s Chief Security Officer Stephen Schmidt informed on LinkedIn that job applications from North Korea have increased by about one-third in the last one year.
This clearly indicated that a large number of people are applying for IT and tech related jobs in American companies.
Fear of infiltration by posing as remote IT worker
Amazon’s Chief Security Officer has warned that North Korean hackers are trying to infiltrate American companies, especially in the tech sector, by posing as remote IT workers. This problem is not limited to Amazon only, but is also visible in many other industries.
Use of fake identities and ‘laptop farms’
Reports claim that these people use stolen or fake identities. Apart from this, the help of ‘Laptop Farm’ is taken, i.e. computers located in America, which are remotely controlled from outside so that the companies feel that the employee is working from America only.
Suspicious signs include incorrectly formatted phone numbers, questionable educational documents and unusual profile details.
More than 1800 applicants blocked
In view of these threats, Amazon has so far blocked more than 1800 North Korean job applicants. The company has also appealed to other companies that if they notice any suspicious activity, they should immediately inform the concerned authorities.
