According to information received from government petroleum companies (PSU oil companies), today – Wednesday, May 23, 2026 – petrol prices in Delhi have increased by 87 paise per liter. Diesel prices also saw an increase of 91 paise today. As a result, the new price of petrol in Delhi has become ₹99.51 per litre, while the new price of diesel is now ₹92.49 per litre. These revised prices have come into effect from 6:00 am today.

Third increase in last 9 days

Earlier this year, on Friday, May 15, state-run oil marketing companies had implemented the first hike in petrol and diesel prices by ₹3 or more per litre. The increase was the first such incident in nearly four years. Four days later – on Tuesday, May 19, 2026 – petrol prices (especially in Delhi) were increased by 87 paise, while diesel prices were increased by 91 paise. After these changes, the prices have been increased once again today, in which petrol has become costlier by 91 paise and diesel by 87 paise per liter.

Petrol prices in 4 major metros

According to data received from oil companies, petrol in Delhi has now become costlier by 87 paise per litre, taking the new price per liter to ₹99.51. In Kolkata, the price has increased by 94 paise to ₹110.64; In Mumbai, it has increased by 90 paise to ₹108.49; And in Chennai, it has increased by 82 paise to ₹103.31. According to estimates, government oil companies are incurring a loss of ₹1,380 crore per day in the sale of petrol, diesel, LPG and jet fuel due to rising crude oil prices.

According to government oil companies, diesel prices in Delhi increased by 91 paise today, taking the price per liter to ₹92.49. In Kolkata, the price has increased by 95 paise to ₹97.02 per litre; In Mumbai, the price has increased by 94 paise to ₹95.02; And in Chennai it has increased by 87 paise to ₹96.98. Recently, there has been a significant increase in the prices of crude oil. After the war with Iran, it has become almost 50 percent more expensive.
