New Delhi. Former ICICI Bank CEO Chanda Kochhar has been found guilty by an appellate tribunal in a case related to ‘Kwid Pro Quo’, ie something and giving something. According to the newspaper Navbharat Times, the tribunal has issued an order on 3 July. In the Chanda Kochhar case, the tribunal has said that Chanda Kochhar took a bribe through her husband in exchange for giving a loan of 300 crores to Videocon Group. Chanda Kochhar was accused of taking a bribe of 64 crores from Videocon Group.
The newspaper has stated that the Appellate Tribunal accepted the allegations of the Enforcement Directorate (ED) who investigated the case. The tribunal said that in the matter of taking bribe of Chanda Kochhar, the ED proved with evidence that the history of the entire case is correct. The tribunal said that the statements under Section 50 of the Money Laundering Act are also legally valid. These statements can be trusted. It is clear that the allegations made by the ED on Chanda Kochhar are correct. The tribunal said VN Dhoot is the Chief Managing Director of Videocon Group and owner of NRPL, but Dhoot says the company had control of Chanda Kochhar’s husband Deepak Kochhar.
The Appellate Tribunal has also criticized the Adjusting Authority in this case for giving relief to the accused in November 2022. The authority had asked to give back the assets worth Rs 78 crore in this case. The appellate tribunal said that the authority had given this order ignoring the facts. The tribunal said that Rs 64 crore received from giving a loan of 300 crores to Videocon Group was transferred to NRPL. Which Chanda Kochhar’s husband Deepak Kochhar used to see in terms of managing director. Chanda Kochhar can now challenge the case in the upper courts. In the year 2018, Chanda Kochhar resigned from the post of CEO and MD of ICICI Bank. After this, the bank sacked him from his job. Chanda Kochhar challenged it in court. The Supreme Court had ruled in favor of the bank in the light of the allegations.
