The troubles of Anil Ambani, one of the biggest industrialists of the country, seem to be increasing. Taking major action in the money laundering case, the Enforcement Directorate (ED) has attached his luxurious house “Abode” in Mumbai. According to officials, the property is valued at ₹3,716.83 crore.
Big action by ED
This action was taken under the Anti-Money Laundering Act. According to news agency PTI, ED has issued a temporary attachment order in this regard. According to agency sources, this order was issued recently. This case is related to an alleged bank fraud case related to Anil Ambani’s company Reliance Communications (RCom). ED is investigating this case under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA).
The abode is in Pali Hill. This luxurious building named “Abode” is in the Pali Hill area of Mumbai. This 66 meter high, 17 storey building is considered to be one of the most expensive private properties in the country. According to ED, the total attachment action taken so far against Anil Ambani and his group companies has exceeded ₹15,000 crore.
The investigation gained momentum after the Supreme Court’s instructions.
Earlier this month, the Supreme Court had directed the ED to form a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to probe allegations of major bank fraud against Reliance Communications, its parent companies and Reliance Group Chairman Anil Ambani.
Anil Ambani will not leave the country
According to media reports, the Supreme Court also mentioned the confidence of Ambani’s lawyer Mukul Rohatgi that his client will not leave the country and the investigation will not be hampered in any way.
Ambani will appear before ED again
The Central Investigation Agency may interrogate 66-year-old Anil Ambani for the second time. He had earlier appeared before the ED in August 2025, where his statement was recorded under PMLA. The Supreme Court has also entrusted the responsibility of investigating to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) whether any bank official was involved in the alleged fraud. The Supreme Court also said that the pace of investigation by both the agencies has been slow. The court has now expressed hope for a fair investigation and has directed CBI and ED to update the court from time to time about the progress of the investigation.
Focus on loan of ₹40,000 crore
After CBI’s FIR, ED started investigating this case last year. The FIR alleges fraud, conspiracy and corruption against Anil Ambani, RCom and others. The investigation focuses on RCom and its subsidiaries, which had taken loans of more than ₹40,000 crore from Indian and foreign banks between 2010 and 2012. Five of these accounts were later declared fraud by the loan granting banks.
