The ongoing crisis in India’s leading airline, IndiGo (Indigo Flights Crisis) is affecting millions of passengers the most. Due to flight cancellation, they now have to pay ten times more to book another flight. In fact, airfare between Mumbai and Delhi has now crossed ₹50,000. Normally, airfare on this route ranges between ₹6,000 to ₹7,000, but due to IndiGo flight cancellations, other airlines have increased their fares drastically. Delhi and Mumbai are, in fact, the busiest air routes. Flight fares between these two metro cities have now gone up to more than ₹50,000 in economy class, which is usually around ₹20,000 even for last-minute bookings.
Rent is highest on weekends
On the flight booking section of the Paytm app, fares for flights from Mumbai to Delhi had reached as high as ₹46,899 on December 5. On December 6, it was seen at ₹23,589. At the same time, on Air India’s website, the fare between Mumbai and Delhi on December 6 is seen to be ₹ 24,000 in economy class, ₹ 28,000 in premium economy and ₹ 50,000 in business class.
More than 300 flights canceled
Indigo has canceled more than 300 domestic and international flights. This has affected services at Delhi, Mumbai, Bengaluru and other airports. The airline is facing an acute shortage of pilots and crew due to difficulties in implementing the new rostering rules. DGCA (Directorate General of Civil Aviation) has called upon IndiGo to explain the existing operational issues and submit a detailed plan to minimize the disruptions.
