Government's no to delivery in 10 minutes! Blinkit, Zomato-Swiggy will stop Quick Delivery feature

Following a strong initiative by Union Labor and Employment Minister Mansukh Mandaviya, quick commerce company Blinkit has completely removed the “10-minute delivery” claim from all its brand platforms. This decision has been taken keeping in mind the safety and better working conditions of the delivery employees.

The claim was removed after strict advice from the Central Government

Union Labor Minister Mansukh Mandaviya held a meeting with officials of Blinkit, Zepto, Swiggy and Zomato. He advised these companies to remove strict delivery time limits to ensure the safety of delivery partners and let them work safely. In the meeting, all the companies assured the government that they will remove strict delivery time limit commitments from their brand advertisements, social media and other platforms. Blinkit has immediately implemented this change, while other companies are expected to do so soon.

Why did the Quick Commerce platform take this decision?

Over the past few weeks, gig worker unions had organized massive protests and strikes. He described the ultra-fast delivery model of 10-20 minutes as unsafe, as it forces delivery partners to drive at high speed, increasing the risk of accidents. The unions had also called for a strike on New Year’s Eve (December 31, 2025) and submitted a memorandum to the Labor Minister.

The government took these concerns seriously and discussed them with the companies. The move is a big relief for delivery workers who risk their lives on the roads every day. This change marks a turning point in the quick commerce industry, where earlier speed was the biggest attraction, but now employee safety is being given priority.
