It is common for private sector employees to forget their UAN number, which makes it difficult for them to withdraw money from their PF account. However, getting your Universal Account Number (UAN) is a simple task. You can get it online from the comfort of your home. Here, we will explain how to get your UAN and use it to withdraw your EPF (Employee Provident Fund) without visiting the regional office.
What is UAN?
Universal Account Number is a number that the Employee Provident Fund Organization (EPFO) gives to every employee who contributes to EPF. It is a unique 12-digit number that does not change throughout the employee’s career, no matter how many jobs they change. Using UAN, multiple EPF member IDs from multiple companies can be linked on a single platform.

It also facilitates online and automatic transfer of the remaining provident fund balance on change of job, thereby reducing the interference of the employer. Once your UAN account is activated, you can visit the EPFO portal to check your remaining balance, download your passbook and update your KYC details. Additionally, it eliminates the need for manual, paperwork or lengthy employer-dependent processes when changing jobs.
