Talks are going on between India and America regarding a trade agreement. This meeting between Jaishankar and Rubio is being considered important. It is also possible that the two leaders may have discussed a trade agreement, although no official information has been released in this regard.
Last week, Union Minister Piyush Goyal, while giving an update on the ongoing trade deal talks with the US, had said that India will not sign any trade deal in a hurry nor will it reject conditions imposed by partner countries that limit its trading options.
Referring to the status of the trade agreement, Piyush Goyal had said that “This is not about the very short term or what is going to happen in the next six months. It is not just about selling steel to the US. Trade agreements are long-term. It is not just about tariffs; it is also about trust and relationships. Trade agreements are also about businesses.”
