The long awaited news is finally becoming clear for lakhs of central government employees and pensioners. The government has given an important update in the Parliament regarding the 8th Central Pay Commission. This shows that the process of revising the salary, allowances and pension of central government employees has formally started.

In the Rajya Sabha on Tuesday, the government clarified that the 8th Pay Commission has already been formed. In a written reply to a question by Rajya Sabha MP Javed Ali Khan, Minister of State for Finance Pankaj Choudhary said that the government had issued a notification on November 3, 2025 regarding the constitution of the 8th Central Pay Commission and the terms of its work. This means that the Commission is not just doing paper work, but is now moving forward in its work.

Recommendations within 18 months
The government also said that the 8th Pay Commission will give its recommendations within 18 months of its formation. This means that central government employees and pensioners will have to wait a little longer. The Commission has been entrusted with the task of reviewing the pay structure, allowances, pension and all other related aspects of central government employees and suggesting changes in them. Changes in salary and pension are possible after the recommendations are implemented, which will affect lakhs of families.

Government’s stance on pensioners
On the question of pension, the government made it clear that there will be no discrimination against pensioners on the basis of their retirement date. The Minister of State for Finance said that the pension of Central Government employees is decided by the Central Civil Services (Pension) Rules, 2021 and other applicable rules. He also said that the existing pension rules have been recognized through the Finance Act 2025, and there have been no changes in civil or defense pensions.

Commission activated
Earlier, the government had also said that office facilities have been provided for the 8th Pay Commission. The process of recruitment of staff for the work of the Commission has also started. These steps clearly show that the 8th Pay Commission is now moving towards full functioning.
