Central government employees are still waiting for their Dearness Allowance (DA). The month of April 2026 is about to end, yet no update has come from the government on this matter yet. As a result, there is a lot of anxiety among the employees. Ever since the Finance Ministry implemented the recommendations of the 7th Central Pay Commission in June 2016, there has never been such a huge delay in announcing the increase in dearness allowance. This is the first time there has been such a long delay; Of course, it’s understandable that employees are feeling anxious.
Has there been a hindrance because of the 8th Pay Commission?
At present, the market of speculation is hot among the employees waiting for their Dearness Allowance (DA). Given the huge delay in the announcement, it is being speculated that the announcement may have been put on hold until a meeting related to the 8th Pay Commission is held. Notably, a meeting of the Drafting Committee of the National Council (Joint Consultative Mechanism) is scheduled to be held on April 13, 2026. The purpose of this meeting is to discuss the final proposal to be submitted to the 8th Pay Commission. As a result, it is being speculated that the Commission is probably still waiting for the outcome of this meeting, and the announcement regarding the salary hike will be made only after that.
When were the first announcements made?
According to Finance Ministry records, the government proposal for DA hike in the year 2025 was presented on March 28, 2025. After this the official announcement was made on 2 April. Similarly, in 2024, the government had officially announced the increase in dearness allowance on April 3. Even during the COVID-19 pandemic, the government had frozen dearness allowance at 17% for the period between October 14, 2019, to July 20, 2021—an official order for this move was issued on April 23, 2020.
