Market Crash Before Budget: Market crashed, Sensex fell by 619 points and Nifty by 171 points.

On Friday, the last trading day of the week, the Indian stock market witnessed a decline due to weak global cues. Both the benchmark indices, Sensex and Nifty, opened lower. BSE Sensex opened at 81,947.31, down 619.06 points or 0.75 per cent from its previous close, while Nifty 50 opened at 25,247.55, down 171.35 points or 0.67 per cent. On BSE, IndiGo, BEL and ITC were among the early gainers, while Tata Steel, Eternal and M&M weighed on the index. The broader market was also trading lower, with Nifty Smallcap 100 falling 1.31 per cent and Nifty Midcap 100 falling 1.01 per cent.

Asian Market Update
Asian markets rose on Friday morning after US President Donald Trump said he would announce the name of the next Federal Reserve chairman on Friday. Japan’s Nikkei 225 was trading up 0.25 percent, Topix also gained 0.58 percent, South Korea’s Kospi rose 1.23 percent, and the small-cap Kosdaq also rose 0.99 percent.

Mixed trading in US markets
US benchmarks closed mixed on Thursday after the US Federal Reserve decided to keep interest rates unchanged. The S&P 500 index fell 0.13 percent to 6,969.01, while the Nasdaq Composite dropped 0.72 percent to 23,685.12. In contrast, the Dow Jones Industrial Average rose 0.11 percent, or 55.96 points, to close at 49,071.56.

The US dollar index (DXY) was trading slightly higher on Friday morning, up 0.43 percent at 96.57. It is worth noting that on January 29, the rupee had fallen 0.17 per cent against the dollar, closing near its all-time low of 91.95. The dollar index, also known as the US dollar index or USDX, is a basket of six world currencies. These include the Euro (EUR), Swiss Franc (CHF), Japanese Yen (JPY), Canadian Dollar (CAD), British Pound (GBP), and Swedish Krona (SEK). The dollar index measures the value of the dollar against these currencies.

How much did foreign investment increase?
According to preliminary data available on NSE, Foreign Institutional Investors (FIIs) bought shares worth ₹393.97 crore on January 28, 2025. On the other hand, Domestic Institutional Investors (DIIs) bought shares worth ₹2,638.76 crore.
