On the front of Artificial Intelligence, not only India, but the whole world is working fast. The world’s richest businessman Alan Musk himself is handling this front. Openai, the company that develops Chatgpt has progressed considerably in terms of artificial intelligence. Now the company that makes Chatgpt is bringing a mega project on AI in India. This project is not worth 100 or 200 billion dollars, but more than $ 500 billion i.e. 44 lakh crore rupees.
Openai is talking to many data centers of the country for this. Also, this global giant is also engaged in talks with Asia’s richest businessman Mukesh Ambani’s company Reliance Industries. Mukesh Ambani himself has moved forward in this field. He has also announced the construction of the world’s largest data center in Jamnagar. As such, the conversation with Openai is very important for Mukesh Ambani and his data center dreams. Let us also tell you what information has been revealed on this mega project of AI in India?
What is happening with these companies
According to an ET report, Openai is planning to bring the $ 500 billion Stargate project to India to India. Openai will create an international joint venture for this project. For this, the global giant is having initial conversations with Indian data center companies SIFI Technologies, Yota Data Services, E2E Networks and Ctrls DataCenters. Sources associated with the project have quoted an ET report as saying that the Chatgpt developer has been having parallel talks with Reliance Industries, the country’s largest company for the last six months. Reliance plans to set up the world’s largest data center in Jamnagar, Gujarat. Sources said that till now the negotiations have been limited to the established capabilities of the data center companies to their location expansion and availability of electricity.
India is becoming a big market
The development has come to light by the Government of India after the Government of India requested Openai to bring the Stargate project to India and to collect data from local level Indians. An official said that the government has told OpenAI that it should invest at least a few billion dollars in India from the $ 500 billion project. The official said India is becoming a major market for OpenAI and has the ability to generate heavy revenue, so the company should invest a large part of the $ 500 billion Stargate project in India.
He further said that the company should also start data storage and processing of the residents of the country as companies like Microsoft and Google already have big data centers in the country and Meta and AWS are expanding. He further said that this would reduce their delay and improve their service. However, no official statement has been received from OpenAI, Reliance Industries and Data Center companies yet.
The Stargate project is worth $ 500 billion.
An executive of a data center company said in an ET report on the condition of anonymity that some initial negotiations have started. Although nothing has been finalized yet, he said that the question is not that they will proceed with any global or local partner, but who will be able to provide them uninterrupted power supply.
OpenAI announced the Stargate project in January as a joint venture company that aims to invest $ 500 billion in four years to build a new AI infrastructure in the US. Stargate has an early equity Funder Softbank, OpenAI, Oracle and MGX, headed by Masayoshi Son of SoftBank. Arm, Microsoft, Nvidia, Oracle and OpenAI are the initial technical partners.
OpenAI expansion in India
OpenAI CEO Sam Altman said last month that India is the second largest market in the company after the US and can become the largest market due to “incredibly rapid development”. The company is doubling its presence in India – setting up its first office in New Delhi, faster in local appointments to increase sales and providing attractive prices to customers in India.
Altman, who is visiting India later this month, said last month that we are particularly focusing on bringing this product to India, working closely with local partners to make AI better work for India and it can be made more economical for people across the country. Given the growth rate, we are paying a lot of attention here.
India’s position on AI
India’s global AI is less than 1 percent of computing capacity, which is a major difference at a time when the country is in the competition to achieve GPU and make Sovereign AI Stack. For example, under the government’s India-AI Mission, only 38,000 GPUs have been included in the panel so far. Conversely, the scale required for openAI is very large. According to estimates from market research firm Morgan Stanley,
A gigawatt hypersscale data center will require the most advanced B100 Blackwell Chips of about 1,35,000 NVidia in four to five years and 1.3 GW round the clock supply.
Fast work in India
Currently, India’s joint data center capacity (non-AI cloud) is less than 1 GW, indicating a major challenge. But there are also some positive signs. According to news reports, Google Cloud is going to invest $ 6 billion for the construction and operation of 1 GW data center and power infrastructure in Andhra Pradesh itself. Reliance has also announced a plan to create the world’s largest new energy Giga Complex with an investment of $ 10 billion (Rs 75,000 crore) with a 1 GW capacity facility in Jamnagar.
