Discussions and debates about work-life balance are nothing new in India. People have been debating this for years. Long working hours, calls and emails even on weekends have made employees’ lives 80 percent professional, leaving their social life confined to weekends. However, the famous Indian industrialist N.R. Narayana Murthy has once again spoken on this issue and said that it is better to work 72 hours a week than to work only five or nine hours a day. His statement has once again created a stir and discussions are hot on social media.
Narayana Murthy reiterated his 72-hour commitment
In fact, recently N.R. Narayana Murthy said in an interview, “There’s a saying in China, 9,9,6. Do you know what that means? Work from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m., six days a week. And that’s a 72-hour work week.” He also said that young Indians should also adopt the same routine. Social media users were quick to react to the statement, which is now gaining attention.
He has made similar statements before; S.N. Subramanian also washed his hands in the flowing Ganga.
It is noteworthy that Narayana Murthy had earlier also advised Indians to work 72 hours a week. Larsen & Toubro Chairman S.N. Subramanian had also given a statement regarding working for 90 hours, “I’m sorry, I can’t bring you to work on Sunday.” How long can you take a break and stare at your wife? It’s better to just keep working.
Now the users have given them their say
As soon as Narayana Murthy’s 72-hour statement went viral on social media, internet users launched a volley of reactions which has not stopped yet. One user wrote, “Uncle, do whatever you want, we have our own family.” Another user wrote, “There is nothing greater than family.” Another user wrote, “You can support your family even by working 45 hours. Not everyone can be the same, so keep your thoughts to yourself, do not impose them on others.”
