The month of December has started from today. Today is Monday, the first day of the month, so the Indian stock market will be open. The stock market is usually closed on Saturdays and Sundays.

Additionally, there is no trading on public holidays. Regarding December, the official holiday list of the National Stock Exchange (NSE) suggests that December will be a very active month. Apart from weekend holidays, there is only one trading holiday scheduled. Overall, the stock market will remain closed for nine days in December.

Only one public holiday in December
The only public holiday in December is Christmas Day, 25 December. The stock market will remain closed on this day. On this occasion, trading will remain suspended on BSE from Equity Segment to Equity Derivatives Segment, Currency Derivatives Segment, SLB Segment, Tri-Party Repo, Electronic Gold Receipts (EGR), NDS-RST, and Commodity Derivatives Segment.

Similarly, all segments including equity, equity derivatives, corporate bonds, mutual funds, security lending and borrowing schemes, new debt segments, negotiated trade reporting platforms, currency derivatives, commodity derivatives and interest rate derivatives will remain closed on NSE. Additionally, the market will remain closed on all Saturdays and Sundays—December 6, 7, 13, 14, 20, 21, 27 and 28. This means that investors got a chance to participate in 22 trading sessions this year. This year, there were a total of 14 trading holidays in the stock market, with Christmas being the last festive break of the year.

Investor confidence strengthened
On the Sensex, HDFC Bank, Bharti Airtel and Infosys were the biggest losers, while Mahindra & Mahindra, SBI and Kotak Mahindra Bank provided significant support. This week, both benchmark indexes posted gains for the third consecutive week, rising about 0.5% each. Bajaj Broking Research said, “Indian markets closed almost flat on November 28, with Nifty near 26,200 levels. Positive trade talks between India and the US have boosted investor sentiment. With Q2 GDP and IIP data also due soon, the overall outlook remains positive.”
