Those using CNG in Mumbai and its surrounding areas will now have to pay more. The retail selling price (RSP) of CNG has been increased by ₹2 per kg. The new rates have come into effect from midnight on May 29, 2026. After this price hike, the retail price of CNG has increased from ₹84 per kg to ₹86 per kg. This increase in CNG prices is likely to impact private vehicle owners, taxis, auto-rickshaws and commercial vehicles. In a notification issued by the company, all dealers have been instructed to provide information about the new rates.
**Why were CNG prices increased?**
According to officials of Mahanagar Gas Limited (MGL), the global gas market is in turmoil due to continuously rising input costs and ongoing tensions in the Middle East. The decision to increase prices was necessary to offset these increased import costs. Following the hike, Mumbai rickshaw union leaders have urged the transport department to increase the base fare – or minimum fare – for auto-rickshaws and taxis by ₹1, according to media reports.
**How much has the price of CNG increased?**
In the month of May, CNG prices have been continuously increasing in Mumbai as well as other parts of the country. In the Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR), gas distribution companies had earlier increased the price of CNG by ₹2 per kg on May 14, taking the price from ₹82 to ₹84 per kg. Later, today, the price was increased once again by ₹2 per kg. Meanwhile, in Delhi and its surrounding areas, the price of CNG has been increased a total of four times in the month of May.
May 15: ₹2 per kg
May 17: ₹1 per kg
May 23: ₹1 per kg
May 26: ₹1 per kg
In just 11 days, CNG prices in Delhi have increased from ₹77.09 to ₹83.09 per kg. In Noida and Ghaziabad the prices have also increased to ₹91.70 per kg.
