On Tuesday, the monthly expiry date of Nifty, the market witnessed a lot of volatility after a weak start. Ultimately, the market fell and closed in the red. Sensex fell 480 points to close at 76,009. Nifty fell 118 points to close at 23,913, while Bank Nifty fell 200 points to 55,092. In contrast, Nifty Mid Select closed up 115 points at 14,675, and Nifty Smallcap closed up 64.5 points at 18,267.
**Which stocks fell today, and which rose?**
Today, the market witnessed pressure in some select sectors, while there was strong buying in some stocks. Among the biggest fallers in the Nifty 50 index were Apollo Hospitals Enterprises, Tata Consultancy Services, Wipro and Trent; All of them fell around 1.35% to 1.7%. In contrast, Adani Enterprises, Tata Motors, Tech Mahindra and Nestle India rose between 1.15% and 4%.
Many stocks saw vigorous trading activity following their earnings announcements. Marxens Pharma jumped about 14.5%, while Astra Microwave Products and RedTape rose about 10%. On the other hand, shares of Container Corporation of India fell nearly 7% after it reported weak financial results.
Among stocks hit by the news, One MobiKwik Systems rose nearly 4% after the company got offline payment aggregator license from RBI. Indraprastha Gas gained around 3.66% on hike in CNG prices in Delhi-NCR region. Meanwhile, Poly Medicure fell nearly 7% on weak growth comments from its management. Premier Energies also gained more than 3%.
Among the stocks that saw the biggest fall from their intraday highs, Awfis Space Solutions fell nearly 15%. Besides, Chemplast Sanmar fell 10.6%, Aditya Birla Real Estate fell 4.65% and IIFL Finance fell nearly 5%. The biggest fallers included Aarti Pharmalabs, Ixigo, Cartrade Tech and Rail Vikas Nigam, which fell between 4.5% and 5.5%. In contrast, the top gainers – including Jindal Worldwide, Adani Total Gas, Semindia Projects and Afcons Infrastructure – rose 6% to 12%.
Some recovery was seen in the early trading hours, but the benchmark indices were trading lower in the afternoon session. Sensex fell 300 points. At the same time, Nifty was trading 60 points down, around 23,960. Bank Nifty slipped below 55,100, a decline of nearly 200 points. The Consumer Durables index fell 1%, while the Banking, Auto and NBFC indices also traded lower.
