The four-week rally stopped and last week Nifty closed at 25,722 with a fall of 0.3%. Midcap and smallcap indices fell by about 1% each. On Friday, Nifty recorded a fall of 155 points, while the US market closed with a slight gain. The Dow Jones Industrial Average gained 40 points and the tech-based Nasdaq gained 143 points. The fall of 50 points in SGX Nifty today is also a sign of market pressure. Market guru Anil Singhvi said that a major support for Nifty lies at 25,575-25,670.
Keeping the factors in mind, continuous selling by foreign investors is what is affecting the market the most at the moment. On Friday, FIIs made a massive sale of ₹6,770 crore in the cash market. There was a combined net selling of ₹9,321 crore in cash, shares and index futures. This is the second consecutive big selling session. Meanwhile, domestic funds continued buying for the 46th consecutive day and invested a total of ₹7,068 crore. Despite interest rate cuts, GST collections remained strong in October.
