The Election Commission has started the second phase of Special Intensive Review (SIR) in nine states and three union territories. In this drive to update the voter list, BLOs (Benjamin Electoral Officers) have now come into the field and are completing the SIR process. Meanwhile, people are wondering what will happen if someone’s name is removed from SIR? Will they be able to get their names back or will their citizenship be questioned? So come, let us know the answers to some important questions related to SIR from experts…
What will be included in SIR?
First of all, let us explain what will be included in the SIR. Simply put, the BLO of your area will come to your home and get you to fill a form called Enumeration Form. This form consists of two parts: one part will be taken by the BLO and the other will remain with you. This form will only prove your connection with the 2002 voter list. This means that your or your parent’s name must be in the 2002 list. If this link is established, you do not need to provide any documents. BLO will inform you about it at the same time.
Furthermore, you do not need to submit any documents to the BLO at this time. If you are not at home at that time, there is no problem. BLO will come to your house three times to check. Moreover, it is not necessary that all the members of your household be present at that time. Any member of the household can complete this process. If you are out of home, you can also fill this form online.
After this process is completed, a draft voting list will be released by the Election Commission. After the draft list is released, you can see your name in it, which can be easily viewed online. If your name is missing, you can get it added by submitting some important documents. After this, the final list will be released.
What documents need to be submitted during SIR?
A former Deputy Chief Electoral Officer, who has worked in the Election Commission for a long time, told Aaj Tak that if for some reason your name does not appear in the final list, then it does not matter. You can get your name added as per the normal process. You can do this online or by contacting a BLO. You will have to provide address proof and other documents. The process of adding names will remain the same. SIR is simply a way to update the voting list. If any name is missing, it can be easily added.
Will questions be raised on citizenship?
However, being or not being on the voting list has no bearing on citizenship, and the voter card is not considered proof of citizenship. Apart from this, no question on citizenship will arise if the name is removed from the SIR.
