The Supreme Court on Wednesday refused to hear a plea seeking cancellation of offline board examinations for class 10 and class 12 to be conducted by CBSE and several other boards this year. A bench of Justices AM Khanwilkar, Dinesh Maheshwari and CT Ravikumar observed that such petitions create false expectations and create confusion everywhere. The court said that the students and officials should be allowed to do their work. Don’t create unnecessary confusion.
The petition sought a direction to the CBSE and other education boards to conduct the examination through other means. CBSE and other education boards have proposed to conduct offline examinations for class 10th and 12th. That is, the board examinations are going to be held on physical mode in the school premises.
The students had filed this petition through their advocate Anubha Srivastava. She is also a child rights activist. The students said that all the boards should be asked to release the results on time and in view of the challenges of the past, provide an opportunity to the students for improvement. He said that some state boards have released their time table while some are looking at the opportunity. The students are upset by his kind attitude. He appealed to the court to do justice to him, citing the problems caused by Karona.
CBSE has decided to conduct board exams for class 10th and 12th from April 26. Whereas ICSE has not yet taken any decision on the examinations. Solicitor General Tushar Mehta attended today’s hearing on behalf of CBSE. The lawyer appearing for the students said that due to Corona, the classes have also not been held properly. Elections are also going on.
After hearing the arguments of both the sides, the court said that it will not issue any order in this matter. Questioning the petition, the bench said what kind of argument is this. Let the authority do its job. The court, while making a strong remark, said that this petition is misleading. The court dismissed the petition imposing fine.
