UGC: The University Grants Commission (UGC) may soon allow students to pursue two degree courses simultaneously. Students can pursue two degree courses from the same university or different institutions at the same time.
UGC President M Jagadesh Kumar on Tuesday said that for the first time, the government has decided to allow students from the same university or different universities to pursue two full-time and same level degree courses simultaneously in physical mode.
The UGC will soon issue detailed guidelines in this regard. This option will be available to the students from the academic session 2022-23. According to the UGC chairman, students will also be allowed to pursue two degree programs simultaneously in physical and online mode.
He said that the UGC had been planning in this regard for a long time. The commission had constituted a committee in this regard in 2012. Kumar said that the two programs chosen by the students at the same time should be of the same standard.
Students can pursue two undergraduate or two postgraduate, two diploma and degree courses simultaneously. According to the guidelines prepared by the UGC, students can pursue two full-time degrees in three ways. Students can do one course in physical mode and the other in online or distance mode.
He said that the attendance requirement for the programs would be decided by the respective colleges and institutes. According to the UGC chairman, if there is a memorandum of understanding between the two institutions and they have decided to allow each other’s students to pursue two degrees simultaneously, they can easily prepare the exam schedule.
