Students across the country are protesting on the streets for the 13th phase recruitment examination of Staff Selection Commission (SSC). From Patna to Delhi, students are demanding justice by taking banner-posters in their hands. Students allege that the SSC 13th phase examination has revealed many flaws, but their complaints are being ignored.

In support of this protest, some teachers demonstrated at Jantar Mantar in Delhi, but the police took them into custody. The matter is also becoming increasingly viral on social media and is trending #SSCMISMANMENMENT hashtag. The students demand that the examination process be transparent and fair. They say that they have been working hard for years, but irregularities in the recruitment process are playing with their future.

What is SSC 13th stage exam?

SSC Selection Post 13th is a direct recruitment examination that aims to recruit qualified candidates for the posts of Group ‘C’ and ‘D’ in various ministries, departments and organizations of the Government of India. In this, candidates can apply for the posts according to their qualification (10th, 12th or graduate level). Data entry operator, clerk, lab assistant, technical operator, store keeper, junior engineer, research assistant, junior stenographer are available. In this examination, questions related to quantitative qualification, logic capacity, English language and general knowledge are asked. A total of 100 multiple choice questions are asked in this CBT and 60 minutes time is given to complete the paper.

What irregularities were found in SSC Phase 13 Exam?

SSC used to conduct Group B (non-gazetted) and Group C (non-technical) examinations before 2010. However, now the examinations of Group B (Gazetted) posts like Assistant Accounts Officer and Assistant Audit Officer also come under SSC. For the past several years, these examinations were managed by Tata Consultancy Services (TCS), but now these exams are conducted through centralized examination system. Students believe that the government has brought a new system, but many flaws are coming out in it.

Candidates allege that the examination centers are so far away in many examinations that students have to come to the examination center a day or two in advance. After this, when the students are reaching there, the examination is canceled on the occasion. Computer systems are also hanging during the examination. The examination of SSC Phase 13 was to be held at the examination centers on July 24, but technical faults occurred at many centers. While taking the exam, many students got computers hanging, which wasted their time. The students allege that many teachers were using the phone at the examination centers, which is forbidden as per the rules.

It is alleged that the system deteriorated as soon as the first shift started at many centers and the examination was canceled in the middle. At some centers, even 500 to 1000 km away, the examination centers were found and they came to know that the examination has been canceled. Many complaints have been received about the examination from many cities including Ghaziabad, Hubli, Lucknow, Bhopal. The examinations from 24 to 26 July at Pawan Ganga Educational Center 2 were canceled. Hubli also had to be canceled due to technical fault on the morning of 24 July. Now the examinations of these candidates will be held again from July 28.

What did the candidates say?

Talking to The Lalantop, SSC candidate Raman said, ‘Girls are wearing earrings, bangles. Even the inspectors present in the examination hall have mobile phones. While the mobile phone is not allowed. During the ongoing examination, he is getting a phone. Talking on the phone, she is saying, okay I am in the exam right now, I will talk later. This is the condition of the exam and it gives the posts of Level 6 and Level 7. That means a government job is available at a salary of 70 to 90 thousand rupees … After IAS, these are grade B examinations which are now being done. Meaning these are grade B level examinations. These posts come immediately after IAS. If you take the exam in this way, then how will be selected for such a serious position.
