After five years, the exile of Congress and Left in Bengal has also ended. In 2021, both did not get a single seat in their account. This time both have won two seats each in Murshidabad.
BJP had lost in the last elections in West Bengal but Left and Congress were completely wiped out. This time, Congress has got success on two seats while CPI(M) has got success on one seat. Congress has won two seats in Murshidabad. CPI (M) has also been successful in opening an account in the same district. CPM has won Domkal seat while Congress has won Farakka and Raninagar seats. Let us tell you that before 2021, Congress and Left were contesting the elections together but later their paths diverged.
Account was not opened in 2021
In West Bengal, Congress and Left were the only alternatives to TMC. Before 2011, BJP had never been able to open its account in the Bengal assembly elections. However, the situation has completely changed today. Congress and CPM were not even successful in opening their accounts in the 2021 elections. If we talk about the 2016 assembly elections, Congress won 44 seats while Left won 32 seats. What happened within five years was that both of them yearned to open an account.
CPM’s ally All India Secular Front has also won one CT. In this way the Left has a total of two seats. From Bhangar seat, Naushad Siddiq has defeated TMC’s Shaukat Mulla. In Muslim dominated Murshidabad, Congress and CPM have caused loss to TMC with these seats. In 2021, TMC had won 20 out of 22 seats in Murshidabad. This time the situation is that only 9 seats have gone to TMC’s account.
Big faces of Congress lost the elections
In Bengal, veteran Congress leader Adhir Ranjan Choudhary and Bengal unit president Subhankar Sarkar and Mausam Benazir Noor also could not win their seats. After the election results, Rahul Gandhi said, some people are doing wrong by celebrating the defeat of Trinamool Congress (TMC) in West Bengal as this defeat is the result of ‘vote theft’ and the most dangerous situation for democracy.
