Bollywood actor Amitabh Bachchan was trolled on social media for giving voice to the caller tune to spread awareness about cyber crimes, but he has done this work only in public interest without any fee.
The Union Home Ministry gave this information in response to the Right to Information (RTI) application filed by the correspondent of “PTI-language”.
In response to this application, the Department of Telecommunications said that it had instructed telecom service providers to run awareness caller tunes related to cyber crimes on 18 December 2024. According to the department, this tune has been discontinued from 25 June 2025.
According to a media report, the department had instructed the service providers to run this tune eight to 10 times a day.
In this caller tune, Bachchan had a record message in the voice of Bachchan, in which he appealed to the people to be careful with cyber thugs and “two steps ahead”.
The record message in his voice said, “Do you know that every day more than six thousand people are losing crores of rupees to cyber criminals, see someone is in a hurry to double the money, so someone who is unknowingly raised video calls from unknown points and there are many who are afraid of fake police, CBI or judge video calls.
The seriousness of cyber crime in the country can be gauged by the Union Home Ministry on July 22 in the Lok Sabha. The government had said that due to cyber criminals in 2024, people lost more than Rs 22,845.73 crore, which is an increase of about 206 percent as compared to the previous year.
In a written reply to a question in the House, Minister of State for Home Bundi Sanjay Kumar said that according to the National Cyber Crime Reporting Portal (NCRP) and the Civil Financial Cyber Fraud Reporting and Management System (CFCFRMS), the total amount of loss due to cyber fraud to citizens was Rs 22,845.73 crore, which was Rs 7,465.18 crore in the year 2024.
