Jaipur, May 23 (IANS). Union Electronics and Information Technology Minister Ashwini Vaishnav said on Saturday that Rajasthan has immense potential to become a major center of electronics manufacturing. He highlighted the efforts being made by the Central Government under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi for the expansion of this sector.
Addressing industry representatives, investors and experts at a dialogue on electronics and semiconductor sectors at the Chief Minister’s Office in Jaipur, Union Minister Vaishnav said that India is making rapid progress in electronics manufacturing and urged investors to set up units in Rajasthan with confidence.
He said that the Central Government has paved the way for 450 factories in the electronics sector in the last two years.
75 factories have been approved under the Electronic Component Manufacturing Scheme (ECMS) within a year, while the Union Cabinet has also increased the budgetary support for the scheme.
Union Minister Vaishnav assured investors that the Central and State Governments will provide full support to promote this sector and said that electronics manufacturing will generate employment opportunities on a large scale.
Chief Minister Bhajan Lal Sharma, who was present at the program along with Union Minister Vaishnav, said that India has joined the group of select countries capable of indigenous semiconductor production.
He highlighted that the Indian Semiconductor Mission is moving forward rapidly with an incentive package of over Rs 76,000 crore.
The Chief Minister said that semiconductor chips have increased in importance in various sectors, from telecommunications and consumer electronics to defense and space technology.
He further said that only those countries and states which develop strong semiconductor capacity will have a bright future.
Chief Minister Sharma said that the first semiconductor cluster of Rajasthan was inaugurated in Bhiwadi this month. The plant, spread over 50 acres, is expected to produce around six crore chips per annum and has already attracted investment proposals worth over Rs 1,200 crore from 20 companies.
Highlighting Rajasthan’s strengths, the Chief Minister said the state’s ‘Triple-S Factor’—silica, skill and solar power—will emerge as a major force for the semiconductor industry.
He said that Rajasthan Semiconductor Policy and Rajasthan Industrial Development Policy have been implemented to create a strong ecosystem, with special incentives given for semiconductor, data center and defense manufacturing projects.
Under the Rajasthan Investment Promotion Scheme (RIPS) 2024, industries are getting financial and infrastructural support, including additional capital subsidy for projects approved under the Bharat Semiconductor Mission and interest subsidy of up to five percent on term loans.
