This is how Manoj of Pandit family learned Urdu
Manoj Muntashir was fond of writing since childhood. To improve his writing, Manoj also used to read books of many poets. In class VII-VIII, he read the book Diwan-e-Ghalib, but due to lack of Urdu, he could not understand anything. Then one day Manoj Muntashir bought an Urdu book for 2 rupees from under the mosque and got Urdu education.
Spent many nights on the sidewalk
After completing his graduation, Manoj came to Mumbai in 1999 with Rs 700 in his pocket. Days and money both went on in search of work. One day Manoj met Anoop Jalota. Anoop Jalota gave Manoj both a chance and a job. Manoj wrote hymns for Anoop Jalota and earned Rs 3000 for the first time. However, even after this Manoj’s days of struggle did not end. Manoj, who spent many nights on the footpath of Mumbai, got a chance to write lyrics for Kaun Banega Crorepati in the year 2005.
Religion change
During an interview, Manoj Muntashir says that ‘In the cold night of 1997, I reached a tapri from my house in search of tea. The radio was playing on that tapri and for the first time heard a word “Muntashir” on it. I loved the word and its association with Manoj. Till the last sip of tea, I had decided to change my name from Manoj Shukla to Manoj Muntashir. But the problem was how to convince my father for this. After thinking all night, I came up with an idea and got Manoj Muntashir written on the name plate of the house. Seeing the name plate, the father got angry, he thought that I had converted my religion. There was mourning in the house.
Broken marriage because of writing songs
The family members decided for my marriage and started looking for a girl for me. The Muhurta of 13th May 1997 came out. All the preparations were done. The cards were printed, but the marriage broke up after two months of courtship. Manoj says that a few days before the wedding, the girl’s brother came to meet me and started asking brother-in-law, what do you want to do next? So I said without any hesitation that brother, I will write a song. On this the girl’s brother said that she is fine, but what will she do in her career? I said brother, I will write only songs for life and make a career in writing. Hearing this, he returned home and later the news of the breakup of the marriage came.
